The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sarasota resident Tuesday morning for a shooting involving a pellet rifle.

Patrol deputies responded to the intersection of Ocean Boulevard and Canal Road in Sarasota just before 8:30 a.m. when a bystander called 911 to report shots fired. Deputies located the victim who informed them he was standing on the street arguing with a man from the second-story apartment located at 5208 Ocean Boulevard. The victim heard two shots fired and then felt an impact to his chest. When paramedics arrived, the victim refused treatment. Through investigation, detectives noticed the pellet lodged in the victim’s chest was consistent with a BB or pellet gun. Two nearby street signs also had impacts consistent with a similar style gun. While deputies were on scene, Adrian Andrews, DOB 08/27/82, identified himself as the resident of the apartment in question.

Detectives conducted a search of his home where they located a pellet rifle and canister of lead pellets. They also confirmed the location of Andrews’s window was consistent with the direction the bullets came from. Detectives interviewed Andrews who admitted to arguing with the victim.

Andrews is charged with Aggravated Battery and is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
