The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office charged two men with Armed Robbery and Kidnapping after connecting them to recent robberies at a SunTrust Bank in Sarasota.

Detectives began their investigation March 15, when two suspects entered the bank located at 4981 Ringwood Meadow, zip tied the doors shut, displayed a weapon and demanded money from a teller. Witnesses indicated the suspects may have fled in a black BMW. Surveillance images of the suspects were shared with the media but led to no arrests. A few weeks later, on April 8, the SunTrust bank was again robbed by a single suspect matching the identical description as one of the suspects in the prior crime.

On April 27, while investigating an unrelated incident, detectives charged Jason Rezendez, DOB 08/24/75, with Grand Theft. When detectives executed a search warrant on his vehicles, they discovered zip ties, gloves and sunglasses that matched the equipment and clothing worn during both robberies. Through further investigation, detectives also identified Eric Cain, DOB 09/04/79, as the other suspect in the March 15 robbery.

Both men are currently incarcerated at the Manatee County Jail. Rezendez is charged with two counts of Armed Robbery and eight counts of Kidnapping. Cain faces a single count of Armed Robbery and six counts of Kidnapping.
