Sarasota Man Arrested for DUI, Drug Charges

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Sarasota man early Wednesday morning on DUI and drug charges after he fled from deputies.

Deputies first witnessed the driver of a white Lincoln sedan swerving across lanes in the area of Webber Street and Forest Knoll Drive in Sarasota. The driver pulled into the parking lot of a business in the 3600 block of Webber Street where deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop. While in the parking lot, a woman entered the suspect’s backseat before he again fled from deputies along Webber Street, reaching speeds of more than 70 miles per hour. The driver eventually stopped his vehicle in the 700 block of Tuxford Drive.

Issa Mousa Alyan, DOB 10/25/1955 was detained and an inventory search of his vehicle was conducted. Deputies discovered methamphetamine, several prescription pills, a glass pipe and digital scale in the vehicle. Alyan was arrested, given multiple traffic citations and transported to the jail. He is currently being held on one count of Fleeing to Elude, three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Driving Under the Influence. His bond is set at $7,000. Alyan has more than a dozen prior arrests for crimes including Aggravated Battery, Aggravated Stalking and Fleeing to Elude.

The passenger was released after deputies determined she was not involved.
