Tampa Trio Arrested for Trafficking in Counterfeit Credit Cards

NEWS RELEASE #: 16-101

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested three people from Tampa after Walmart Asset Protection noticed they were using multiple credit cards to buy miscellaneous items and gift cards.

Tactical Unit deputies responded to the Cattlemen Road store Tuesday at approximately 6:30 p.m., and stopped the suspects' vehicle after managers reported the suspicious activity. Deputies explained why the three were being detained and they consented to a search. Ultimately, deputies located 33 credit cards that, when swiped by detectives, included Track Data on the magnetic strip that was different from the numbers embossed on the cards. In addition, detectives found 15 gift cards and nearly $9,000 in cash.

Detectives arrested 22-year-old Maronte Gilbert, 22-year-old Carlos Goodman, and 23-year-old Skyler Waits. All three are charged with one count each of Trafficking in Counterfeit Credit Cards. Waits also faces Fraudulent Use of Personal Identification. Her extensive history includes arrests from across the country for Theft, Fraud and Forgery. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
