Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight is pleased to announce that School Resource Deputy George A. Gipson was recognized today by the Sarasota County NAACP Youth Council as a "2016 Man of Valor".

Gipson was honored Saturday morning at the sixth annual "Men of Valor" breakfast at the Robert L. Taylor Community Complex in Sarasota. Honorees are recognized for extraordinary service toward the development of children, youth and families in Sarasota through work in the community and in their church. Gipson, a combat veteran, joined the sheriff's office in 2009 and has been assigned to Booker Middle School for more than two years. Gipson also volunteers with the Sheriff's Activities League (SAL) and Laurel Civic Association, and is a member of the Sarasota Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.

"This is an incredible recognition for Deputy Gipson and I am so proud that he is a member of our team" said Sheriff Knight. "The value he adds to the sheriff's office, to local youth and to his community is a prime example of going beyond the call of duty."
