Trio Charged in Connection with Killing of 7-pound Dog

NEWS RELEASE #: 16-135

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested three people from Nokomis for Animal Cruelty after deputies connected them with the strangling death of a 7-pound Pomeranian.

Deputies first responded to 112 North River Blvd., on June 27, for reports of a disturbance after a witness was alerted to Judy Lamb and Eddie Roden mishandling the dog, while its owner was sleeping. According to the witness, Lamb was seen carrying the dog by its neck and Roden, carrying it by its tail. When deputies entered the home, they found the dog named "Georgie", deceased. When questioned, Lamb admitted to unsuccessfully strangling the dog before Mona Gehman stepped in to "finish the job". Roden also admitted to playing a part in Georgie's death by tying a shoestring around its neck. A necropsy of the dog determined it died as a result of trauma to its head and abdomen.

All three are charged with Animal Cruelty. Detectives are currently investigating the death of Lamb after corrections personnel found her unresponsive in her jail cell Tuesday evening. The investigation is ongoing.
