Deputies Work Together to Take Down Prolific Offender

NEWS RELEASE #: 16-155

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a Sarasota man well-known to law enforcement Tuesday night in Sarasota, after he walked out on his bar tab and fled from authorities.

Deputies were called to Miller's Ale House at 2800 Kenny Drive at approximately 11:30 p.m., after 29-year-old prolific offender Jacob Davis left without paying his $26.50 bar tab. Just as Patrol deputies arrived, Davis fled the parking lot in his vehicle and headed north on Cattlemen Road. With aerial assistance from the sheriff's office Aviation Unit, Patrol deputies pursued Davis until he reached dangerous speeds and then cancelled pursuit for the safety of other citizens. The Aviation Unit maintained sight of Davis while he recklessly drove through Lake Sarasota and into the Gator Creek Golf Club off Bee Ridge Road. With direction from Air 1, deputies deployed stop sticks at two different locations within Gator Creek. The stop sticks were successful, however Davis still managed to make his way to the front of the community, driving with flat tires until he crashed into the exit gate. When deputies made contact with Davis, he rammed his vehicle into a patrol cruiser several times before complying. The entire incident was captured on video from the helicopter and is viewable on the sheriff's office YouTube channel.

Davis, DOB 07/26/87, of 1579 Firethorne Lakes Drive, is charged with DUI, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Test, two counts of Property Damage, Theft, Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Failure to Register a Motor Vehicle and Violation of Probation for Trafficking in Stolen Property. His extensive criminal history includes Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property, Theft and drug possession. Davis remains in custody at the Sarasota County Jail without bond.
