Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight is pleased to announce that Major Paul Richard, Law Enforcement Division Commander, graduated from the 265th session of The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) National Academy on the United States Marine Corps base in Quantico, VA.

The National Academy places a heavy emphasis on physical fitness, academic study and leadership development. Richard's class included more than 200 law enforcement executives from 49 states and 24 foreign countries. Selection for the 10-week program is by invitation only through a nomination process. While at the academy, Richard's course of study involved classes on Leadership, Forensic Science, Crisis Negotiations and Stress Management.

Richard has a Bachelor of Science degree from Florida State University and a Master of Arts degree from the University of South Florida. He is also a graduate of the Southern Police Institute's Command Officers development Course and the inaugural class of The Florida Sheriff's Institute Commanders Academy. In 2015, Richard graduated from the FBI's Florida Executive Development Seminar.
