Methamphetamine Trafficking Arrest

The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office arrested a Nokomis man after discovering a large quantity of methamphetamine during a traffic stop on Friday afternoon.

Tactical Unit deputies stopped Jonathon Whitford, DOB 07/14/80, around 3:20 p.m., in the 2300 block of Laurel Road in Venice, after investigation revealed that he would be travelling from Bradenton with an unknown amount of drugs. As deputies made contact with Whitford, they located a plastic bag containing more than 23 grams of methamphetamine. The street value of the drug is estimated to be approximately $2,500.

Detectives charged Whitford, of 100 N. Pearl Avenue, with Trafficking in Methamphetamine. He is currently being held at the Sarasota County Jail on $50,000 bond. The investigation is ongoing.
