The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office has arrested a convicted felon for pawning jewelry that was stolen in two Kensington Park burglaries.
Intelligence Unit Detectives began investigating Kristjan Newman, DOB 1/9/85, after discovering he pawned several pieces of women's jewelry at five different locations in north Sarasota earlier this month. Newman is a violent felony offender who was previously in prison for Armed Burglary, Dealing in Stolen Property and other crimes. Detectives also determined he had been associating with several known subjects in the Kensington Park subdivision, so Crime Analysts researched criminal activity in Kensington Park and found two burglary reports in which women's jewelry was stolen from homes on Prudence Drive and Monica Parkway. Detectives contacted both victims who identified the jewelry pawned by Newman as theirs.
Newman is charged with six counts of Dealing in Stolen Property and six counts of Providing False Ownership Information on a Pawn Slip. He is also charged with violating probation.
