The Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, working in conjunction with the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, has arrested a Venice man for downloading child pornography.
Detectives determined that a particular Internet Protocol (IP) address was used to download 143 files that contained hash values which were previously identified as files containing child pornography images and videos. The downloads occurred between November 13, 2012 and April 8, 2014. Through the legal process detectives learned that Comcast leased the IP address to a customer at 620 Sheridan Drive.
Detectives, with the assistance of the Intelligence Unit, Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team and ICAC executed a search warrant at the home this morning and located one desktop computer. The customer's son, Timothy Gaunt, DOB 7/21/84, admitted the images were his. A preliminary forensic scan of the computer revealed a sample of 18 images or videos depicting sexual conduct by a child.
Gaunt is charged with 18 counts of Possession of Sexual Performance by a Child. Additional charges are pending upon completion of the investigation.
