About Animal Services
The Sarasota County
Sheriff's Office took over the responsibilities of Animal Control from the
County Government on Oct.1, 1994. The name "Animal Control" was
changed to "Animal Services" due to the many services we provide to the
Community. We provide these services for all of Sarasota County.
The administrative offices are
open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.
to 4:30 p.m. Calls for service are handled through the administrative
office. We also house the case files and the county animal license
records. You can reach the administrative office by calling (941)
861-9500.
The shelter is open seven days
a week, with the exception of holidays. Shelter hours are from 9:00 a.m. to
4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturdays, and
12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. on Sundays. They provide housing and care for all of
the animals under our custody. Be sure to visit our adoption room for a
look at some of the animals in our adoption program.
The Animal Service Officers work on the road responding to your calls for
service. Some of the calls they respond to are nuisance complaints,
contained animals, reports of animal bites, injured animals, and animal cruelties.
Interested in learning more
about us? We would be glad to address your group or school and give them
an idea of what we do. We can also talk to your group about such things as
animal safety and hurricane preparedness.
