Cadet Program Fact Sheet

  • The Sheriff's Cadet Corps is made up of young men and women between the ages of 14*(and in the Ninth Grade) and 18 who are interested in Law Enforcement and working with the public.

 

  • Meetings are every Monday at the County Courthouse between 6:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Squad meetings are from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Training and the Business meeting is from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

 

  • Students will get involved in a variety of programs and projects in the community and around the State. Participants will get the chance to work with law enforcement Officers and learn traffic control, communications (911), how laws are made and enforced by law enforcement, rappelling, CPR, riding with Patrol Deputies, and many other related areas.

 

  • Participants must attend training sessions at 2071 Ringling Blvd. (Justice Center) every Monday night from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This is called "The Academy", and it is designed to familiarize the Cadet with departmental procedures used in the office and out in the field.

 

  • Participants must also go through an oral board, a background check and must have no lower than a “C" average in school prior to application being submitted.

 

  • The Cadet Corps is not all work. The Cadets go on fun activities, have parties, and travel to meetings across the State.

 

  • The cost of this program is $20.00* which includes registration and secondary insurance.  The cadets pay $1.00 a week dues and the uniforms are provided by the Sheriff's Office after a 90-day probation period.

 

  • Senior Cadet Program is $20.00 for registration

 

  • Junior Cadet Program is $10.00 for registration (No Uniforms)

 

  • The Junior Cadet Program runs from Feb. thru the end of each school year. It is made up of graduating 8th grade students who are interested in law enforcement.
